Armistice

Celebrating the declaration of the armistice at LeTreport [sic], November 11th

After armistice was declared on November 11, 1918, huge celebrations occurred throughout Britain, France and the US. American and British celebrants in Le Tréport, where Norris had been first stationed, express their joy at the war's resolution.  An American nurse sits in the driver's seat of the vehicle as British and American troops wave their flags. Under the image, Dr. Norris typed notes of his recollections of the momentous occasion.

London greets the cease-fire : spontaneous rejoicing at the conclusion of an unparalleled ordeal

The end of the Great War brought spontaneous celebrants into the streets of Britain's cities. "By the time we reached the great port city (of Liverpool), bedlam reigned supreme.  The streets were packed—marching bands and waving, shouting mobs—dancing at the hotel until 5 a.m."
