Bad Medicine: Drug Manufacturers, Advertising, and the Push to Sell

Summary

Many medicines were packaged and sold before their effects, intended or otherwise, were well understood. The promotional materials in this exhibit show us the ways in which drug manufacturers promoted these medicines before they were repealed from the market or had their recommended usages dramatically altered. Most of the materials in this exhibit are fully digitized pamphlets, so make sure to spend a little time exploring their contents.

This mini-exhibit is the second in a series based on the small exhibits on display outside the reading room of the Historical Medical Library at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
