Photograph presenting a left lateral view of brain of Charles J. Guiteau, assassin of President James A. Garfield. Guiteau's trial was one of the first high profile cases in which the insanity defense was used, and after his execution, his brain was removed during autopsy for study by doctors at the Army Medical Museum in Washington DC. Pieces were kept by both the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Maryland and the Mütter Museum in Philadelphia.
