A child suffering from St. Anthony's Fire (ergotism) stands with a crutch and fire coming from his hand, appealing to St. Anthony the Great. The Saint holds a staff and reads a book. Behind the Saint, there is a pig with a bell on its left ear.

Feldtbůch der Wundtartzney, Hans von Gersdorff's fieldbook of surgery, was first published in 1517 in Strasbourg. The work proved to be a popular surgical text and is especially well-known for its instructions on limb amputation. The illustrations, hand-colored in this copy, are attributed to Johann Ulrich Wechtlin and include the first printed image of an amputation.
