Knee or leg stretching. A patient with his leg in a device used for stretching the leg, possibly for dislocations. A surgeon is turning a crank to operate the device.

Feldtbůch der Wundtartzney, Hans von Gersdorff's fieldbook of surgery, was first published in 1517 in Strasbourg. The work proved to be a popular surgical text and is especially well-known for its instructions on limb amputation. The illustrations, hand-colored in this copy, are attributed to Johann Ulrich Wechtlin and include the first printed image of an amputation.
