Title page of Feldtbůch der Wundtartzney. Two physicians, possibly Saints Cosmas and Damian, patron saints of medicine, stand in a field holding containers, one of which is possibly a flask of urine. The two are in robes and have halos surrounding their heads.
Includes hand-written inscription: Monasterÿ [?] 1659.

Feldtbůch der Wundtartzney, Hans von Gersdorff's fieldbook of surgery, was first published in 1517 in Strasbourg. The work proved to be a popular surgical text and is especially well-known for its instructions on limb amputation. The illustrations, hand-colored in this copy, are attributed to Johann Ulrich Wechtlin and include the first printed image of an amputation.
