Blood transfusion from animal to human (figure IV): on a table, a tube is inserted into an artery in the leg of a lamb and another tube is inserted into a vein in the arm of a man. Blood transfusion from human to human (figure V): one arm wearing a tourniquet has a tube inserted into an artery while the arm below it has a tube inserted into a vein.

Clysmatica nova was one of the first books to discuss blood transfusion and the intravenous injection of drugs. This greatly expanded second edition included plates that depict the transfusion of blood from animal to animal, man to man, and animal to man.
